Back to Class

Well, Homecoming weekend has come and gone, and now it's time for class again :-(. The weekend started off with a series of Alumni Board meetings. As a student representative on the board, I missed my classes on Friday in order to attend the meetings and break out sessions. We discussed everything from renovations on campus to the development of a new student organization. Friday night we attended a very nice dinner in Great Hall with all of the board members and members of the advancement office. It was great to talk with the alumni and compare how things are now versus when they were in school. I had a very interesting conversation with one lady that dated Harrison Ford while they both attended Ripon. I talked to members of my dad's fraternity to share stories about toga parties and life at the Merriman House. It was very enjoyable, and I loved being able to talk with people that care so much about the College; it's very inspiring.
But the Alumni Board meetings didn't end there. At 7:30 in the morning on Saturday, we reconvened to tie up any loose ends to our plans, and we ajourned our meeting just in time for me to catch the tail end of our sorority's alumni cookout for all of the gradutated sisters that came back for Homecoming. Then we all walked down to the football game. We played against Caroll College, and it was very close the whole time. Unfortunately, we ended up losing by two points.... it was sort of a hard loss to digest, but there was no time to dwell on it, as we had to get ready for formal that night. Merriman fraternity had an in-house formal where everyone got all dressed up, took their dates out to eat, danced, and socialized until Sunday morning.
Homecoming weekend left many of us feeling tired and unmotivated to get all of our work done for Monday. But, we had to suck it up and do it anyway, because this is College. And believe it or not, our primary focus here is academics.... or at least that's what they tell us.... ;-)
